Some useful Tips
Make sure you have the correct strength selection. If the reed is too strong or too easy, it is not going to change as cane reeds do. It is worth taking the time at the early stages to select a reed which gives absolute comfort.

Dont's
Do not set the reed too deep in the chanter seat, as this can cause the F note to break up. Do not move the balance bridle too far up the blades as this will cause the top G note to "switch" into a higher octave. Do not twist the reed into the chanter while holding it by the blades.

Do's
Do make sure that the reed inner cavity is kept free of deposits of bag seasoning. To remove simply wash with lukewarm water. Do ensure that the "throat" of your chanter bore is kept clean. A build up of deposits in the chanter throat will cause the reed to malfunction on some notes, particularly D, C, and Low G.
